Individual leek packaging

Mechelse Veilingen in Sint Katelijne Waver (Belgium) at the heart of the vegetable growing region has, for donkey's years, been the vegetable auction par excellence.
With 2,500 growers and annual revenue of over 200 million euro Mechelse Veilingen is Europe's largest cooperative auction.
The products that are extremely important for Mechelse Veilingen are tomatoes, lettuce varieties, peppers and leeks. Leeks are sold primarily between October and April together with the other winter vegetables.
The Auction is always on the lookout for new ideas to supplement its traditional offering. The fast changing market means the Auction must continuously search for new packaging that answers the market demand.
The demand for individually packaged products is increasing as the consumption pattern of families continues evolving. The increase in the number of one-person households and smaller families led to the decision to opt for a sleeve made for a single leek.
A packaging design that is totally in-line with the Mechelse Veilingen house-style assures the customer that the product he or she is buying meets the auction's stringent quality standards.

During the development of the final packaging design Van der Windt Packaging was on-hand to provide any necessary support. So that the maximum flexibility can be offered and the sleeve can be introduced during Fruit Logistica 2009 it is being manufactured by our own production company, Wentus Kunststoff GmbH.
